3 Characters I Relate to Daily Now That I'm a Mom

Motherhood is beautiful, crazy, and unpredictable. And to keep from crying in frustration at endless housework or a baby who likes to get into everything, I find it better to laugh and enjoy this wild ride. In the past few months, I've found myself looking to some of my favorite fandoms for inspiration as I frolic through each day. Surprisingly, I've found that I can really identify with some key male characters many of us know and love!

Alfred

Who doesn't love Alfred? Bruce Wayne's trusty butler and confidante, Alfred holds an important place in the Batman universe. While I'm partial to Alan Napier's depiction of Alfred in the 1960s Batman TV series, ever since my son became more mobile, I've found myself quoting Michael Caine's version of Alfred numerous times.

The 10th Doctor

Different regenerations of the Doctor, from the show Doctor Who, have their own endearing quirks and unique characteristics. Played by David Tennant, the 10th Doctor is a very heartfelt, endearing Time Lord who is often telling everyone else just how sorry he is. Every time I have to refuse my little guy something, or each time he bonks his head and gets upset, I just pretend that I'm the 10th Doctor.

Gandalf

The adventurous leader of hobbits and dwarves from Tolkien's Middle Earth means business. While my adorable son is decidedly not a fiery Balrog, I still find myself speaking Gandalf's words to him whenever he's trying to crawl behind the toilet or into the garbage can.

This list is not exhaustive by any means; there are plenty of fictional characters, male and female, who I find myself thinking of or quoting quite often. I love cultivating my geeky side, and quoting some of my favorite fandoms as I care for my son and housework is a great way to keep life lighthearted!
